During this episode of Joyful Disciples, our host Donna Ottaviano-Britt digs deep into the Ascension of Our Lord. She asks us to consider the mindset of the Apostles and how stunned they must have been when Jesus handed them their global initiative: “Go! And make disciples of all nations.” She then brings that mission for the kingdom forward to now in the 21st century and to us. Our times and tools are different, but the mission remains exactly as it was for the Apostles. With Pentecost right around the corner, we know Jesus was not leaving them (or us!) without help – the Holy Spirit. We get a little history lesson of this great day and what it meant for our Jewish brothers and sisters, and for the disciples of Jesus. It’s a story that highlights the amazing goodness and love of the God the Father to connect us all! We have spent the time of pandemic building our domestic churches so we must consider how we will move forward when we can engage the world again how we give witness and speak on behalf of Jesus. For to not do so, translates to a failure to fulfill our mission for which each of us has been tasked.
