“Miss Drexel Enters a Catholic Convent- Gives Up Seven Million.”  This was the 1889 headline in the Philadelphia Public Ledger, after Philadelphia native and heiress Katharine Drexel decided to enter the Sisters of Mercy convent in Pittsburgh.  On this month’s Talking Saints, our hosts unpack the story of a woman who gave up material wealth for spiritual treasure, and founded schools and missions to educate Native Americans and African Americans- a path that led her to sainthood and even more headlines.
