Talking Saints – Philip Neri
In 16th century Rome, the Catholic Church was in trouble; the Protestant reformation, inner corruption, and growing cynicism threatened its influence. Enter the man called “good little Phil,” Philip Neri.
To mark today’s feast of Saint Philip Neri, our hosts Laurie and Pete share the life of this remarkable evangelist who proved that “a joyful heart is made more easily perfect than a downcast one.” In his 80 years on this Earth, this saint attracted fervent followers for Christ, including his own “saint squad”; cultivated a devotion to the blessed sacrament; and always kept a listening ear for others, in his “home of Christian mirth.”
As he was wont to ask his followers, let us ask ourselves and others, “When shall we begin to do good?”
Saint Philip Neri, pray for us!
